Get Rid of Constipation by Having Good Colon Health

Colon is that silent part of the digestive system of which a number of people hardly think. May be if you are one of those people who were not aware of the fact that the colon is the sole organ that is responsible for constipation if not taken care of properly.

Now from here all such toxins and waste are washed out only by the colon if it is in a good shape. On the other hand, a poor colon health would mean accumulation of such wastes and toxins inside the colon would lead to constipation due to which a person would not be able to have even a single bowel motion in very critical cases at times.

Thus, in order to keep your colon health good, it is advised that you keep a constant eye on your diet as well as your lifestyle.

On the other hand it is important that you take such foods that are high in fiber like apples, vegetables, fruits, grains like wheat etc, cut on the foods that contain increased amounts of fats and carbohydrates and starch thus, deteriorating your colon health.

In addition to this, you need to have regular sessions of workouts and take proper sleep of six to eight hours everyday so that your whole body gets proper rest and gets back to work when ever you need it in the fittest manner possible.

Colon Health and Friendly Bacteria - Understanding Their Relation

Colon is our large intestine. It is five and a half feet long and two and a half inches in diameter.

Colon is also responsible for digestion and helping our body absorb nutrients from the food. Do you know that there are millions of bacteria living in your healthy colon? Some of these bacteria are good, while others are bad.

When there is an imbalance, that is the bad bacteria outnumber the good ones, it leads to a condition called dysbiosis.

Causes Of Dysbiosis

Let us find out what causes this imbalance. Taking antibiotics for a long period of time leads to serious lack of friendly bacteria in our colon. This is because the antibiotics have killed off the good bacteria and this has led to growth of bad bacteria called Candida (which causes the yeast infection).

Meat, high-fat and high sugar diet spell doom for friendly bacteria. So eating lot of meat and sugar provides the bad bacteria with an environment where they can thrive.

Chlorine water is one of the culprits responsible for killing good bacteria.

Sudden change of diet, like when you travel abroad, can also lead to dysbiosis. But what constitutes beneficial bacteria? Lactobacillus Acidophilus, commonly referred to as acidophilus, is identified as the good bacteria. Bifidobacterium bifidum is another good bacterium present in our colon.

How To Restore Good Bacteria

So how can we restore good bacteria in our colon?

Probiotic supplements are very effective in restoring good bacteria in the colon.

Yogurt helps to create an acidic environment in the gut and this acidic environment is suitable for the growth of friendly bacteria like, acidophilus and bifidum. You should also take care to avoid things that cause harm to the bad bacteria. Eat health and exercise regularly for your health.

Diets for Colon Health

A healthy colon moves food through the system and eliminates waste substances within 16-24 hours of eating.
When this happens the waste may remain in your body for many days, the decaying matter in your colon contains a high concentration of harmful bacteria and your colon becomes a toxic colon which poisons your body.

However, people who have constipation or do not evacuate regularly can have more than twice fecal matter, which is toxic and continually poisons their colon and body.

You can improve your colon health simply by eating healthy fruits and vegetables. Moreover they contain vitamins which help to keep you and your colon healthy.

Finally you should include in to your diet also some probiotics sources. Healthy bacteria serve as a protective barrier against harmful bacteria, contribute to fight microbial organisms and help to strengthen the immune system.

A supplement will insure that you ingest the correct amount of healthy bacteria. When you choose one product to improve your colon health, it is important to check that it actually contains live bacteria of  between 5 and 15 billion CFU.

The products of the probiotics digestion help to lower the pH of the digestive tract and this prevents the growth of unhealthy bacteria.
